Music is far more than what many of us consider it to be
it’s is a universal language that resonates with us humans no matters the ethnic group, tribe or culture we belong to. it has the power to touch areas within us that feels unalive, gives memories and capable of influencing our behavior even without our consent
Music doesn’t need permission to take control of a person’s way of living, certain music are hypnotic and the moment a person begin listening, it influences the mind through the melodies that flows from it, feeling irresistible, going on transmitting the message that the artiste is passing across, be it positive or negative, into the minds of the listener causing acceptance to whatever they are listening to at that moment.
This is one of the reasons why, in many countries, most trends often begin in the music industry. When people are drawn to a certain kind of music, they begin to live out the message in real life, adopting the attitudes, values, and even the lifestyle of the artists they consider role models. Over time, the music creates a deep sense of attachment between listeners and the artist. and this has advantages and disadvantages
Benefits of music everyone is expected to know
1. Eases stress: after having a long day at work, turning on music streaming platforms to play some cool songs helps in relaxing our nerves, it flows within our system like we are being injected, taking effect the moment the music start playing
2. Unites people together : Like I mentioned earlier, music has a unique power to connect people across different nations, even when they don’t speak the same language. Take Afrobeat, for example — an African genre pioneered by Nigerian legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti. It blends Yoruba and Pidgin English, yet it has achieved widespread international recognition and acclaim.
3. Serves as therapy: Certain kind of music helps in regulating our emotional state, many people struggling with depression relies on soul music as a mean to cope. some are drawn to the lyrics they listen to from the artiste which is relatable, while others may be drawn to the melodies or instruments playing behind the vocals
Risk of music you might be ignoring
This is the part that many people should be very much aware of based on it’s threat and influences
- It Can Produce Wrong Motives in People:
Many songs might sound great, but if you look closely at their messages, some contain chaotic or misleading ideas that can shape a listener’s mindset. When people listen to motivational music, it encourages them to push harder, strive even when things get tough, and reminds them of the values they want to represent. Conversely, listeners who are exposed to violent or negative music without awareness may begin to adopt harmful attitudes or behaviors. Over time, the type of music a person regularly consumes can influence their lifestyle and the choices they make. - It has the power to redirect a person’s purpose in Life:
People who become deeply attached to certain types of music often develop admiration not only for the sound, but also for the artist behind it. Today, there are many artists whose lifestyles are not worth emulating. When listeners follow such figures as role models, they may begin to imitate harmful behaviors, including the use of drugs and other substances that pose serious health risks. Over time, this influence can shape a person’s choices, values, and even the direction of their life. They might be too far gone before realizing the impact of what their choice of music has done to them. people must be very cautious of what they listen to because the mind is like a receptor, whatever you feed it with is what it produces, when you feed it with positivity it produces life but when it’s fed with negativity it produces harm or danger - It can trigger painful memories from the past: Based on the strength of emotions that music carries some certain music brings back memories of the past. Something that might have been hurtful and probably still undergoing healing
When this kind of music is listened to frequently, it can slow down healing process and make recovery take longer than it should. Even so, many people still find it hard to take a break from it because of the deep places it touches within them.
The reason for this writeup isn’t for the purpose of driving people away from listening to what they enjoy but to create an awareness of what’s playing out behind the scene while they tune into their favorite songs. The consciousness of feeding our minds with meaningful resources, be it music, books, movies, or other media, should be taken seriously because of the influence they have on us.
For now i would like to say thanks for your time, for you to have come this far it signifies you found this valuable to you as a person
